Entertainment Systems - the challenges faced by miners and how this
technology can meet those challenge.
7.50am –
8.20am
Garry A. Einicke, Principal Research
Scientist, CSIRO Exploration and Mining - Robust mine
communication networks
Underground
coal communications systems are required to be intrinsically safe,
meet communication needs during both production and emergency conditions,
and survive underground mine power outages. It is suggested that
an autonomous communication management plan be established at each
mine site which includes: consideration of mine emergency scenarios;
determination of adequate communication coverage; identification
of potential communication problems; conducting risk analyses to
identify measures for improvement; and continuous monitoring of
communications performance. Using possible future scenarios this
presentation will discuss options for robust surface and underground
mine communication networks.

Digital communications and Tracking Systems in Underground mines
As on the surface,
information and communications in underground mines is critical for
both productivity and safety. This presentation will detail current
installations and today’s trend toward wireless networks in
underground mines and how the mines make use of telecommunication
systems.
Data, communications
and tracking systems for Personnel and Equipment are now being deployed
using 802.11 wireless Ethernet similar to that on the surface. NLT
Australia have developed their own range of products and are leading
the world in deploying these systems in Underground Coal mines.
