Stephen Bird
Managing Director/CTO
InTotality

Abstract
End to End Service Delivery Management
Achieving end to end service delivery management is the goal of many customers and service providers, the principal issue is that no one vendor truly provides a total end to end solution. Compuware’s Vantage suite is a best on class solution for Systems & Application Management, End user experience, and Application & Network Traffic analysis, which can compliment other industry leading technologies, for example EMC’s SMARTS.

EMC SMARTS is a product which models and maps network topologies, including physical connectivity, IP, MPLS, BGP, Optical, storage and VOIP topologies to name a few. Overlayed on this is automated root cause analysis through Codebook correlation and Service and Business impact modelling which relies on systems, application and end user experience monitoring delivered by partner application.

Together Vantage and SMARTS provide industry leading end-to-end management of Applications, Servers, Network infrastructure, Business & Service Impact and User Experience with automated root cause analysis in a single tightly integrated solution.

InTotality’s paper will detail the practices involved in integrating Compuware with other systems using EMC Smarts as an example and detailing the benefits of Service and Business impact Modelling with Compuware Vantage as a primary source of instrumentation for service delivery, application health and customer experience monitoring.

Abstract
Achieving Business-Driven Service Delivery with Vantage
For more than 40 years, organizations have been talking about aligning IT with the business. As the dependence of business upon IT services has skyrocketed over recent years, along with the costs of providing those services, it is more important than ever to manage the IT services in context of the value that they deliver to the organization. Compuware Vantage is an IT Service Management solution that addresses this need with Business-Driven Service Delivery.

At the heart of Business-Driven Service Delivery are three elements that help IT teams know how effectively their work supports the needs of the business, and which helps restore order when service delivery is ineffective:

  • Business Service Management (BSM) delivers real-time business-focused views of service delivery to convey the impact of IT services on business operations.
  • End-User Experience monitoring puts the measurement of IT service delivery in context of the customer that benefits from the service and helps to assess the scope of performance problems when they do occur.
  • Application Analytics provide detailed insight into application performance that helps pinpoint the cause of poor performance, whether in the client, the network, the servers, or in the application design.

This combination of BSM, end-user experience monitoring, and application analytics is a powerful solution for aligning IT with the business, so where do you start? This presentation will help you consider which of these capabilities makes the best starting point for your organization and the best strategy for achieving business-driven IT service delivery for you most mission-critical business services.

Bryce Dunn
Product Manager - Business Service Management and Service Level Management Solutions
CPWR

Abstract
Treading the fine line
IT Departments are becoming more sophisticated while at the same time Business stakeholders not only want more accountability but expect better service with fewer resources. This means that over delivery is just as bad as under delivery. It is important to reduce the cost of over delivering non-critical service, maintain the link between the business and operations and improve the ability to hit business goals exactly.

While not all organizations have SLAs, there are nearly always some kind of targets that can be used to determine acceptable performance – and although business may say that they want the best possible quality, it is rarely at any price.

This presentation explores how every operational decision must be taken with both business impact and SLA impact in mind; that over delivery can be just as bad as under delivery; and that the integration of Business Impact and Service level Management with day to day operations drives maximum profitability.

Biography
Bryce Dunn, Product Manager for Business Service Management and Service Level Management solutions at Compuware has been working in IT Service Management for over 10 years with experience in sales and marketing, field implementation, and product management.

Jeff Findlay
Senior Product Specialist
CPWR

Abstract
Delivering "Fit-for-Purpose" Applications
Businesses are increasingly reliant on IT systems for the support of critical business processes. To improve profitability, satisfy customers and extend their market reach, businesses require IT to rapidly deliver capabilities in line with business needs. Yet, IT regularly struggles to meet the demands of the business. Traditional methods of managing application delivery focus on meeting delivery dates, budgets and minimising defects.

Unfortunately, little emphasis is placed on ensuring the application is "Fit-for-purpose"... resulting in:

  • Delivery teams not effectively capturing the intent of the business
  • Delivery teams struggling to propagate business intent through all aspects of the delivery process
  • Delivery management having limited ability to measure and manage the delivery process based on the business intent As a result, IT has limited credibility with the business and is not viewed as a strategic business partner. By aligning all application delivery activities with business goals, Compuware's Optimal Delivery Management solution (ODM) allows IT to deliver business value more accurately with higher levels of customer satisfaction.

In this presentation we will:

  • Discuss why delivery executives need visibility into the status of ongoing projects at all stages of the process.
  • Show how delivery executives can quickly drill down from a problem to get the information they need to prevent and resolve issues.
  • Look at how business aligned, technical metrics can quickly show if your application is ready to deploy.

Biography
Jeff Findlay has over 20 years' experience as an information technology professional. He specifically worked in the development of architectural software focusing on 3-D modelling. He joined Compuware eight years ago and has held a number of different positions in the areas of application development, software testing and development process improvement. Recently, he was appointed regional champion for Compuware's Requirements Management solution - Optimal Trace.

Martin Gorman
Fujitsu Consulting

Abstract
Value Governance applied to IT
For more than 30 years corporate decision makers have believed that the trillions of dollars spent on IT yields no return. Paradoxically, this has been accompanied by an annual increase in that expenditure and a conviction that it is a necessary evil. No other part of an organisation would get away with that kind of result. The good news is we no longer have to.
Martin’s presentation looks at the Problem, Solution and Doing of Value Governance, with a focus on the Val IT framework which has revitalised the debate on the need for governance.

His presentation will cover:

  • how the principles that govern the realisation of value organisationally apply equally to IT;
  • why being confident in the reliability of our delivery capability is no longer good enough; and
  • how the emerging ValIT framework complements CObIT to help organisations connect IT expenditure with the business results it should bring.

Biography
Martin leads Fujitsu Consulting’s Australian and New Zealand Enterprise Value Management (EVM) competency. Focussing on value governance, EVM incorporates Strategic Governance, Portfolio Management, Benefits Realisation and Program Management. Martin works with executives in the private and public sectors to support their organisations make the right choices when it comes to capital investment: including investing in information technology enabled business change.

His approach has been to help his clients recognise that organisational value is derived from the cumulative effect of the choices they make when deciding where to allocate scarce resources. His success has stemmed from his ability quickly to situate the key elements of strategic governance in any organisation’s context: Is this the right thing to do? Will it be done the right way? Will it be done well? Will we get the benefits? Martin’s clients have included major US organisations, prominent Australian private sector organisations, the Australian Government and many State Government agencies in Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales, Western Australia and Tasmania.

Martin is based in Melbourne and is part of the team of Fujitsu professionals contributing to the thinking behind ValIT.

David Kapelanski
Subject Matter Expert - Application Delivery
CPWR USA

Abstract
Test Factory: An Industrialized Approach to Application Testing
For nearly two decades test automation technology and test automation methodologies have been available to help insure the quality of applications. Yet analysts from Gartner to Forrester will attest that application quality has not improved; even after millions of dollars have been spent for tools, methodologies and training. What can a company do to continuously improve quality?

Application software testing is also undeniably an enticing opportunity for outsourcing. It is financially compelling and can lead to higher quality applications tested by experts in the quality assurance space. These very attributes have lead to a “boom” in the market; increasing competition and straining outsourcer’s ability to recruit and retain experienced delivery resources. Competitive pressures bring rising costs, increased delivery challenges to do more with less, and eroding profits. In the mean time clients expect higher quality services and better communication of progress and results.

The Test Factory Approach addresses these challenges faced by end user companies and the outsourced service providers they may employ through a model that:
• Standardizes the testing infrastructure,
• Automates demand and resource management,
• Monitors governance and execution, controls technology costs,
• Provides a foundation for developing differentiated testing services offerings or building an internal QA capability that delivers high quality results.

This presentation will:
• Discuss the evolving role of the IT shop in a flat, multi-sourced world;
• Examine the trends and challenges in the testing marketplace;
• Describe the test factory approach, architecture and operations;
• Provide guidance on choosing an outsourced testing service provider;
• Highlight methods to ensure your business intent becomes reality in the applications you deploy.

Dave Kapelanski has more than 25 years of experience with I.T. Project Management, Application Development and Quality Assurance initiatives. His experience extends across mainframe, distributed, and web environments. James Morrison
Principal

Fujitsu Consulting

Abstract
Value Governance applied to IT
For more than 30 years corporate decision makers have believed that the trillions of dollars spent on IT yields no return. Paradoxically, this has been accompanied by an annual increase in that expenditure and a conviction that it is a necessary evil. No other part of an organisation would get away with that kind of result.

The good news is we no longer have to.

Jame’s presentation looks at the Problem, Solution and Doing of Value Governance, with a focus on the Val IT framework which has revitalised the debate on the need for governance.

His presentation will cover:
• how the principles that govern the realisation of value organisationally apply equally to IT;
• why being confident in the reliability of our delivery capability is no longer good enough; and
• How the emerging ValIT framework complements CObIT to help organisations connect IT expenditure with the business results it should bring.

Gerard O’Hara
Managing Partner
451 Consulting

Abstract
Realising Benefits from Programs and Projects
Benefits Management sounds easy and straight forward. However, the devil is in the detail as it triggers a cultural change for many organisations. It brings a clarity of accountability, recognizing project managers can ONLY be accountable for OUTPUTS (such as new systems, processes and structure) and Operational Managers are accountable for project OUTCOMES (ie. benefits).

This presentation touches on each stage of the extended project lifecycle to underpin the realisation of benefits. It includes a case study and provides a number of tips and learnings for sponsors, project managers and operational managers.

Biography
After completing his MBA, Gerard managed General IT Consulting and Cost & Performance Management teams for Price Waterhouse Queensland. He later joined PA Consulting as Queensland Practice Manager.
For Suncorp, Gerard established and managed the internal team to assist the merger of Suncorp, Metway, and QIDC.

In 2001, Gerard created 451 Consulting Pty Ltd, a management and technology consulting firm that has delivered 220 assignments for 26 private sector and government organisations. A case study describing the successful business model of 451 Consulting was recently included in ‘Services Marketing: First Asia Pacific Edition’, a University Text published by John Wiley. Gerard has conducted over 250 hours of lectures to MBA students at University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology.

He was a member of the Board of Directors for Multicap, and in 2007 Gerard was included in Queensland’s inaugural edition of ‘Who’s Who in Queensland’.

Tony Shediak
IT Consultant
AAPT

Abstract
Performance Tuning Your Mainframe Applications – it’s not so hard
Unfortunately, most of the time, programs are developed or changed without sufficient (or even any) consideration to performance. Is it a lack of knowledge, tools or processes? Or is it unimportant as compared to functionality and delivery constraints? A good programmer develops efficient code the first time without trying too hard and employs the right tools to ensure the delivered code is not only functionally correct but also performance considerate. The difficulty is instilling this knowledge, attitude and discipline within the organisation as ‘Business as Usual’.

This presentation provides some performance tuning tips, several real ‘quick win’ examples, and some ideas on improving the performance culture within your organisation. The audience for this presentation would ideally be any mainframe applications developer, performance tuning specialist or manager.

Biography
Tony Shediak is an independent IT Consultant with 25 years of Mainframe experience covering Applications Development, Database Administration, Systems Programming, Performance Tuning, Training and Consultancy. He has presented papers for CMG Australia, UK and USA.

Tim Sheedy
Senior Analyst
Forrester Research

Abstract
Business Technology – threat or Opportunity
Information Technology is absolutely fundamental to business as organizations have embraced the capabilities that the IT department provides. However, the emergence of Business Technology (BT) will provide both an opportunity and threat to IT departments as the business removes the IT department from the purchasing process. IT functions that embrace BT will become essential to all business decisions and processes. IT departments that do not evolve will be left to manage just the IT infrastructure, and will witness a decrease in their influence within the business.

In his presentation, Tim will examine the factors that will drive the IT business forward over the next five years, and offer advice on how to best embrace these factors in order to ensure long term business relevance for the IT department.
