the Blue Mountains
Discover
a tempting combination of breathtaking nature, romantic accommodation,
fine restaurants and indulgent shopping within two hours of Sydney,
in the Blue Mountains World Heritage Listed National Park.
Breathe
the fresh mountain air and relax, as you marvel at a majestic landscape
of waterfalls and awe-inspiring sandstone escarpments. Indulge at
restaurants renowned for their creative use of fresh, local produce.
Unwind with a rejuvenating day spa treatment.
A
place of great natural beauty and rich cultural resources, the Blue
Mountains attracts millions of visitors from throughout the world,
making it one of the top three tourist destinations in Australia.
The
Blue Mountains City Council is based in Katoomba, New South Wales,
and serves 26 townships in a local government area of 1433 square
kilometres. The townships are situated from 50 to 120 km west of
Sydney, within 1,000 square kilometres of World Heritage listed
National Park.
CLIMATE
The climate of the Blue Mountains is somewhat cooler than
the lower Sydney region. During the winter months (June, July,
August), the average temperature in the Upper Mountains is
around 5°C, while in summer (December, January, February)
the average temperature reaches around 18°C. The Lower
Mountains have a much warmer climate, ranging between an average
of 16°C in winter and 29°C in the summer months.
As
uplifting air masses come into contact with the Blue Mountains,
the moisture in the air cools and condenses. As a result,
there is generally more rain in the mountains than in Sydney.
Although the Blue Mountains have a reputation for snow in
winter, there are generally only around five snow days each
year in the Upper Mountains. Snow is extremely rare below
Lawson, though frost, ice and sleetare common |
